"DORA BRAY DIED AFTER 56 YEARS IN MERREDIN."

Well known Merredin resident, Miss Dora Bray, died earlier this month after living 56 years in the town.

Miss Bray was known for her association with the Church of Christ, the Bible Society and all things musical in Merredin.

Her late sister Hazel Bray, a well known music teacher, came to live in Merredin in 1927.

The following year the remainder of the family came to the town. In her early years in Merredin she became involved with the Methodist Church and gave her support with music and the Sunday School. When the Church of Christ commenced in 1951, having been a prior member of this church, she and her mother and sister became foundation members.

She was the last of the surviving foundation members. She gave her whole hearted support to the church, but her interest went beyond the boundaries of denominationalism, having played for services in just about all the churches in Merredin and supported women's groups, Bible studies or any meetings in other churches.

Miss Bray was well known for her singing and sang solos and participated in choral work as a member of the CWA - Eastern Division choir, the Merredin Music Society and in recent years the inter-church Christmas cantatas.

Whenever there was anything to do in the finer points of music Dora was either a participator or a supporter.

She helped many of the local Aboriginal citizens of the years with help in various ways and a few years ago helped with the Aboriginal sewing class.

She was a member of the CWA, one time member of the tennis and golf club and later the Civic Bowling Club.

Her employment was with Spargo's Grocery Store and later the Shire Council until her retirement.

She was a member of the Merredin Senior Centre Committee, but unfortunately ill health prevented her from attending th recent official opening of he new building.

Miss Bray taught music on the piano following her sister's death but she is better remembered for opening her home in hospitality and having a good sing around the piano She lived a full and interesting life and was a member of a much loved family.

With her passing it would seem that an end of an era has occurred for many years the Bray home of Mrs. G. Bray with her daughters Hazel and Dora was somewhat of a legend, and for those who knew them their lives are the richer.

Two brothers survive the family are Frank (Kalgoorlie) and Les (Pambula Beach NSW.)
